Klenze, Lieutenant. Officer of the Imperial German Navy aboard the submarine U-29 during World War I. Lt. Klenze confiscated an ivory carving of a youth’s head found in the pocket of a dead sailor on Jun 18, 1917, marking the beginning of the end for the U-29 and her crew.
Over the course of the following two weeks, the crew of the U-29 went insane, while the U-29’s engine room blew up on July 2nd. The explosion crippled the ship. On July 4th, general mutiny broke out while Lt. Klenze was on duty. The mutiny resulted in Lt. Cdr. Heinrich, the ship’s captain, shooting the rest of the crew while Lt. Klenze "stood paralyzed and inefficient."
On August 12th, after drifting helplessly southward in a submarine that couldn’t surface for over a month, Lt. Klenze went totally mad. Ranting "He is calling!" over and over again, Lt. Klenze attempted to convince Heinrich to leave the submarine with him. When Heinrich declined, Lt. Klenze left the ship and drowned.
