Y’ha-nthlei. The Deep Ones’ city at the base of Devil’s Reef a mile and a half east of Innsmouth Harbour and Innsmouth, Massachusetts. The city is at least 80,000 years old. Part of it was destroyed in February, 1928 when a U.S. Navy submarine sent torpedoes down the abyss at the base of the reef. The city has been described as a place of phosphorescent palaces of many terraces, with gardens of strange leprous corals and grotesque brachiate efflorescence.

Yellowed Papyrus, The. A sheath of papyrus found in the dream-city of Zakarion which speaks of the Bronze Gate and what lays beyond its portal. Some stories relate ecstasy and happiness unimaginable, while others speak of horror and destitution. Both make since, for it is assumed that the land that lies beyond the Bronze Gate is, indeed, death.

Yiang-Li. A philosopher from the cruel empire of Tsan-Chan, which exists in the years around 5,000 A.D.. Yiang-Li was a victim of a mind transfer with a member of the Great Race of Yith. This transfer took him back to almost 150,000,000 B.C., where he met Professor Peaslee.

Yog-Sothoth. One of the Outer Gods. Many would differ from this an classify Yog-Sothoth as a Great Old One along with Cthulhu, though he is not. In The Dunwich Horror, Lovecraft narrates a passage from page 751 of the Necronomicon which states—
“Yog-Sothoth knows the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the key and the guardian to the gate. Past, present, and future are one in Yog-Sothoth.”
In this passage, Yog-Sothoth is described as he who knows of the Great Old Ones and their ways, where they lived and where they lay in deep slumber now. Thus, Yog-Sothoth is a different class of creature, one above the Great Old Ones because of what he is. Yog-Sothoth is thought to be the unearthly father of the Whateley twins, Wilbur and his brother, who was never actually named. The twin which looked more like his father was described as—
“Bigger’n a barn...all made o’ squirmin’ ropes...hull thing sort o’ shaped like a hen’s egg bigger’n anything with dozens o’ legs like hogsheads that haff shut up when they step...nothin’ solid abaout it—all like jelly, an’ made o’ sep’rit wrigglin’ ropes pushed clost together...great bulgin’ eyes all over it...ten or twenty maouths or trunks a-stickin’ aout all along the sides, big as stove-pipes, an’ all a-tossin’ an’ shuttin’...all gray, with kinder blue or purple rings...Oh, oh, my Gawd, that haff face—that haff face on top of it...that face with the red eyes an’ crinkly albino hair, an’ no chin, like the Whateleys...It was a octopus, centipede, spider kind o’ thing, but they was a haff-shaped man’s face on top of it, an’ it looked just like Wizard Whateley’s, only it was yards an’ yards acrost...”

Yoth. Red-litten city hidden beneath the crust of the earth.

Yuggoth. The Mi-Go name for the ninth
planet in our solar system, popularly known as Pluto. Yuggoth exists as the Mi-Go's
immediate abode in near space where the race has built black cities of windowless towers
and fungoid gardens. Black rivers of pitch flow under mysterious Cyclopean bridges built
by some elder race extinct and forgotten long before the Mi-Go first came.
It was upon Yuggoth that the artifact known as the Shining
Trapezohedron was created and kept until the Old Ones took it from there and brought it
with them to Earth.
